Rutgers' Laney, SMU's Perry Take Weekly Women's Basketball Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The American Athletic Conference has announced winners of the league’s weekly women’s basketball honors for games ending Dec. 29.  
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Betnijah Laney * 6-0 * Jr. * F * Rutgers
Junior forward Betnijah Laney had her seventh double-double of the year and fifth straight in helping Rutgers to kick off the American Athletic Conference slate with a 66-53 victory at USF on Sunday.  Laney led the Scarlet Knights with 18 points on 8-for-15 shooting (.533) and tied her career-high with 13 rebounds. She also tied her season-high with five assists and no turnovers.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Kiara Perry * 5-10 * G * SMU
Perry fell just shy of a double-double in SMU’s conference opener at No. 7/7 Louisville. The freshman had 13 points and a career-high tying nine rebounds vs. the Cardinals and reached double digit scoring for the first time since Nov. 19. Six of her 13 points were of the fast break variety. The Mustangs held a 12-6 advantage in that area.

Had a game-high 18 points vs. SMU, moved into fourth place on Louisville's all-time scoring list with 1,738 career points
 
Jeanise Randolph * 6-2 * Sr. * F * Cincinnati
Recorded her fifth double-double of the season (15 points, 10 rebounds) at No. 1/1 UConn
 
Ariadna Pujol * 6-1 * Fr. * G * USF
Had 17 points in 25 minutes off the bench against Rutgers
 
Te’onna Campbell * 5-10 * Sr. * F * Houston
Posted her fourth double-double of the year (16 points and a game-high 10 rebounds) vs. UCF
