PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly men’s basketball honors for the week-ending Jan. 19.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Russ Smith • Sr. • G • Louisville
Smith led Louisville to a pair of American Athletic Conference wins to help the Cardinals remain a game out of first place in the league standings. He averaged 20.5 points and shot 52.4 percent from the field (11-of-21) and 71.4 percent from 3-point range (5-of-7) in the two games. Smith scored 23 points with four rebounds and two assists in a 76-64 win at UConn, scoring 10 of the Cardinals’ last 12 points. He had 18 points with five rebounds, four assists and three steals in a 91-52 win against Houston.

Danrad Knowles • Fr. • F • Houston
Knowles averaged 11.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.0 blocks and shot 53.3 percent from the field (8-of-15) in two games for the Cougars. He led Houston in scoring and rebounding in a 77-55 win against Rutgers as he finished with 16 points and eight rebounds to go with four blocks in his first career start. He had six points and five rebounds in a loss to Louisville.
