PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The American Athletic Conference announced the women's soccer awards for the 2016 season, which were voted on by the league's 10 head coaches.
Stephanie Ribeiro was a unanimous selection to be this year's Offensive Player of the Year. Saga Fredriksson of UCF and Toriana Patterson of UConn took home Co-Defensive Player of the Year. UConn's Rachel Hill and Tulsa's Rachel Thun were named this year's Co-Midfielders of the Year. Emily Armstrong won Goalkeeper of the Year. Evelyne Viens won the Rookie of the Year honor. Co-Coach of the Year went to UConn's Len Tsantiris and SMU's Chris Petrucelli.
Stephanie Ribeiro not only led the league in game-winning goals(five), total goals (11), and points scored (28) in conference play - she also leads the nation in those categories. The redshirt senior comes into the conference tournament with 11 game-winners, 19 total goals, and 49 points. She helped lead her team to its second straight regular-season conference title and has helped keep the Huskies ranked the NSCAA poll all season.
Saga Fredriksson has played in all nine conference matches for the Knights. An anchor in the back line, she helped her team back to a fourth straight conference tournament bid.
Toriana Patterson anchored a back line that did not lose a single match in conference play. The redshirt senior led the Huskies to five shutouts in conference play which is tied for first in the league, She has started ever match for the Huskies and recorded a goal and an assist in conference play.
Rachel Hill has started every match for UConn. Hill is tied for third in the conference in goals scored (seven) and tied for fourth in points (16). She moved into second place in the program record book scoring 58 career goals.
Rachel Thun was a leader in the midfield for the Golden Hurricane this season. Thun finished fourth in points (16) in the conference as she scored six goals and recorded four assists. She was fourth in the conference in assists and fifth for goals scored.
Emily Armstrong played every minute of conference play this season as the goalkeeper led her team to five shutouts in conference play. Armstrong ranks first in goals-against average (0.54) and save percentage (.902).
Evelyne Viens paced the Bulls' offense with 16 goals and 36 points during her rookie campaign. The forward finished second in the conference in goals per game (0.94) and produced three game-winning strikes. She highlighted her regular-season with a hat-trick against Jacksonville University on Sept. 8.

Len Tsantiris coached his team back to a regular season title in 2016. The UConn coach recorded his 500
th career victory with the Huskies this season and did not lose a single match in conference play.
Chris Petrucelli coached his team to their first conference tournament since 2014. His team finished third in conference play with a 6-2-1 record and a 12-5-1 overall mark. This is the best finish for SMU since joining The American.
Houston earned the Team Fair Play Award after totaling 83 points (63 fouls, two yellow cards and zero red cards) during conference play. The Fair Play Award is given to the team with the fewest accumulated fouls, yellow cards and red cards in league action (foul=one point, yellow card-five points, red card=10 points).
