Two From The American Selected For The NCAA Women's Soccer Championship

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Two teams from The American were selected for the NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship, the NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Committee announced on Monday. UCF and USF will compete for the 2017 Women’s College Cup.
 
UCF will host Washington State to open the tournament. The Knights clinched the regular season conference title to host The American Championship. A scoreless double-overtime draw vs. USF in the finals ended in a 5-3 shootout in favor of the Bulls, resulting in a runner-up finish for the Knights. UCF extended its unbeaten streak to 16-matches. The Knights’ only loss of the season dates back to Aug. 18 against then-No. 4 South Carolina. UCF holds a 2-0-0 record against Pac-12 opponents this year, defeating Arizona (Sept. 1) and Arizona State (Sept. 3).
 
USF will welcome the Eagles of Florida Gulf Coast to Corbett Stadium the opening week of the NCAA Tournament after winning the league’s automatic bid. After 110 minutes, the Bulls claimed its first American Championship title outshooting UCF 5-3 in penalty kicks on Nov. 5. USF returns to the NCAA Tournament field after posting back-to-back appearances in 2014 and 2015.
 
First-round games will be played November 10, 11 or 12 at campus sites. Second-round games will be played Friday, Nov. 17 at campus sites, third-round games will be played Sunday, Nov. 19 at the same campus sites. Quarterfinal games will also be played on campus sited Nov. 25 or 26.
 
The 36th annual NCAA Women’s College Cup will be played Dec. 1 and 3 at Orlando City Stadium in Orlando, Fla., with UCF and the Central Florida Sports Commission serving as co-hosts. The first national semifinal will be played and shown live on ESPNU at 5 p.m. ET, Friday Dec. 1. The second semifinal will begin at approximately 7:30 p.m. ET on the same network. The national championship match will also air on ESPNU and take place at Noon ET on Sunday, Dec. 3.
