Highlights
- UCF took home four first-place finishes in its opening meet for the outdoor season. The 4x400 meter relay team of Ebony Crear, Ashley Jocelyn, SheKara Martin and Rosie Chamberlain won the event with a time of 3:42.42, the 13
th fastest time in the nation after the first weekend. Alissa Willims won the 100-meter dash (11.62), Johna’ Whitaker won the 100-meter hurdles (14.02) and the Knights won the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 45.44.
- The UConn men’s was in the Orlando for the Black and Gold Challenge and dominated the throws winning gold in three events. Kevin Foster won the javelin with a throw of 72.09m, fifth in the NCAA. Cameron Thompson won the hammer throw (58.54m) and Matthew Graziano won the discus with a throw of 51.94m.
- The UConn women’s team was also in Orlando and also dominated the throwing events winning all four. Divine Oladipo won both the shot put (15.24m) and the discus (49.44m), Chanell Botsis took home gold in the hammer throw (58.45m) and Thalia Ghalam won the javelin (43.79m). Emily Dugin won the 1500m in a personal best 4:28.81.
- East Carolina took home 15 gold medals at the Carolina Relays in its first outdoor meet of the season. Three Pirates each won two events with Jasmine Dawson winning the 100m (11.95) and 200m (24.45), Lauren Lubarski winning the high jump (1.63m) and javelin (24.13m) and on the men’s side, Adam Manns won the shot put (17.59m) and the discus (51.57m).
- Houston hosted its Cougar Spring Break Invitational and took home 13 golds to start its outdoor track and field season. Sierra Smith (11.62, 100m), Tori Williams (23.45, 200m), Nikesha Keith (56.87, 400m) and the Houston “A” team in the 4x100 meter relay (44.23) all took home first place finishes in women’s track. In women’s field, Haley Houston (3.85m, pole vault), Tonyecia Burks (12.81m, triple jump) and Mikaila Martin (54.46m, hammer throw) each won gold.
Cameron Burrell won the men’s 100m dash (10.26), Amere Lattin won the 200m (20.82), Raymund Clarke won the 400m Hurdles (53.14) and Houston’s “A” team won the 4x100 meter relay (39.47) and 4x400 meter relay (3:11.49). In the men’s field events, Michael Mahnke took home gold in the pole vault clearing 5.05m, Jared Kerr won the long jump with a leap of 7.42m and Cameron Cornelius won the shot put with a mark of 18.88m
- Memphis started its season at the Rhodes Invitational and took home three first-place finishes. The Tigers swept gold in the javeling with Ashley Pryke winning on the women’s side with a throw of 53.41m and Michael Criticos winning the men’s event with a mark of 66.15m. Jada Parker was the other Tiger to win gold, taking the pole vault title with a clearance of 4.00m.
- USF won four women’s titles at the Bulls Invitational to begin its outdoor schedule. Stephanie Lambeth won the pole vault with a mark of 3.70m, Mira Carrozza won the javelin (44.04m), the Bulls won the 4x100 meter relay (45.63) and Mikeia Pooler won the heptathlon with 4,672 points.
- SMU earned two wins at the TCU Invitational over the weekend with Holly Archer winning the 800m (2:10.55) and Hannah Miller taking home gold in the 3000m (9:36.22). Shanoah Souza (9:53.17) and Charlotte Tara Murphy (9:57.85) finished second and third in the 3000m.
- Tulane competed at the Louisiana Classic and three women earned gold medals. Daliadiz Ortiz won the javelin with a school-record mark of 51.88m, Mckenzie Melius won the steeplechase in a time of 11:14.37 and Taylor Potts won the shot put with a mark of 15.33m.
- Tulsa took home 10 golds at the Tulsa Duels with the women’s team taking home seven titles. The women’s relay teams won both the 4x100 meter relay (46.71) and the 4x400 meter relay (3:50.28). Candalyn Lyons won the 100m (11.90), Aaliyah Birmingham won the 200m (24.42), Kiara Jones won the 400m (1:02.06), Adrena Mazzei took home gold in the 800m (2:13.23) and Caitlin Klopfer finished first in the 3000m with ta time of 10.13.19. On the men’s side, Bailey Stewart won the 400m (47.79), Benjamin Preisner won the steeplechase (5:47.83) and Ellis Coon won the 3000m with a time of 8:47.54.
