Orlando, Fla. – UCF, Memphis, USF, Tulane, earned quarterfinal wins at the 2017 Men’s Tennis Championship on Friday. The four teams advance to the semifinals on Saturday.
No. 1 USF 4, No. 8 East Carolina 0
No. 1 seed USF produced a 4-0 win over No. 8 seed East Carolina in a quarterfinal match at the USTA National Campus.
The Bulls jumped out to a 1-0 lead after wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles spots. Sasha Gozun and Alberto Barroso-Campos won 6-0 over the Pirates’ Freddie McGeehan and James Ling, while Justin Roberts and Peter Bertran tallied a 6-4 victory over Vlad Anghel and Fredric Lehfeldt of East Carolina.
USF built a 3-0 lead after wins at No. 3 and No. 4 singles by Barroso-Campos and Betran. The Bulls clinched it with Jakub Wojcik’s straight-set victory at No. 6.
The Bulls advance to the semifinals and will meet No. 5 Memphis Saturday at noon ET/ 11 a.m. CT.

The Tigers took the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots, and Memphis took a 2-0 lead after Kai Lemke’s 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles.
Ronald Slobodchikov put SMU on the board with a straight-set win at No. 1 singles, but Memphis’ Jan Pallares scored a straight-set victory at No. 5 to give the Tigers a 3-1 lead. SMU’s Tony Russell won a three-set battle at No. 4, closing with a 6-0 third set to keep the Mustangs alive, but the Tigers clinched it when Felix Rauch outlasted Julio Olava at No. 6 singles in a 7-5, 6-7 (7), 6-3 battle.
Memphis advances to face No. 1-seeded USF in the semifinals Saturday at noon ET/11 a.m. CT.

The Golden Hurricane picked up wins at the top two doubles positions to earn doubles point against the Knights, including a 6-1 win at No. 1 by the tandem of Majed Kilani and Or Ram-Harel. UCF’s Harrison Richmond scored a straight-set win at the No. 3 singles spot to tie the match at 1-1.
The Knights earned two more points with straight-set victories at the No. 3 and No. 6 singles positions. Dominic Bechard got one back for the Hurricane with a straight-set win at No. 4, but UCF clinched it, with a 7-5, 6-3 win from Chris Barrus at No. 5.
The Knights advance to the semifinals, where they will face Tulane at noon ET/11 a.m. CT.

The Green Wave claimed the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles spots to as the tandem of Sebastian Rey and Chi-Shan Jao won a 6-4 decision at the top spot to clinch the team point.
Tulane went on to take the first three singles matches that were completed as Ewan Moore won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2, Luis Erlenbusch won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4, and Tim Ruetzal won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 6.
The Green Wave will face No. 4 seed UCF at noon ET/11 a.m. CT on Saturday.
