PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly baseball honors for the week ending April 2.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Chris Carrier • Sr. • OF • Memphis
Carrier helped Memphis to a series win at Cincinnati, hitting .625 (5-for-8) against the Bearcats and .600 (6-for-10) on the week as a whole. Carrier had two doubles and three home runs while driving in eight runs. He also scored five runs and drew six walks.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Tim Cate • So. • LHP • UConn
Cate improved to 2-1 on the season with a win over East Carolina as part of a UConn sweep over the Pirates. Cate went seven innings and tied a career-high with 13 strikeouts. He scattered five hits and allowed one unearned run as the Huskies moved to 3-0 in conference play for the first time since 2013.
WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
Eli Putnam • Sr. • OF • UCF
Putnam hit .429 (6-for-14) for the Knights as UCF went 3-1 last week, including a 2-1 series win over Houston. Putnam had a hit and scored a run in every game, had two doubles, drove in three runs and stole three bases.
Anthony Prato • Fr. • INF • UConn
Prato helped the Huskies to a 4-0 week and sweep against East Carolina. Prato had a hit in every game, hitting .353 (6-for-17) and driving in three runs. Prato also scored three runs, drew two walks and stole a base.
Trey Cumbie • So. • LHP • Houston
Cumbie continued his strong pitching increasing his scoreless streak to 19.2 innings over his last three starts. Cumbie went seven shutout innings against Incarnate Word, scattering four hits and striking out five.
Joe Genord • So • C/1B • USF
Genord hit .429 (6-for-14) for the Bulls, who went 2-2 over the week. He hit two doubles and two home runs while driving in eight runs and scoring five runs. Genord had hits in all four games including two multi-hit games.
J.P. France • Jr. • RHP • Tulane
France helped the Green Wave win its series over USF with 8.1 innings pitched in Game 2 of the series. France gave up seven hits and allowed two runs while striking out six in a 4-3 win.
