PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly men’s basketball honors for the week of Jan. 8-14.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jeremiah Martin · Jr. · G · Memphis · Memphis
Martin averaged 28.5 points per game in leading Memphis to two wins last week. The junior opened the week with a career-high 31 points in the Tigers victory over Tulane. On Saturday, Martin added 26 points in Memphis’ overtime win at Temple. Martin is one of two players in the country (St. John's guard Shamorie Ponds) averaging as many points (18.5), rebounds (4.5), assists (4.1) and steals (2.3) per game this year.

Nate Pierre-Louis · Fr. · G · Temple · Plainfield, N.J.
For the first time in his career, Pierre-Louis collects rookie of the week accolades. In Temple’s road win at SMU, snapping the Mustangs’ 33-game home court winning streak, Pierre-Louis grabbed a career-high seven rebounds and chipped in five points. Against Memphis, Pierre-Louis erupted for a career-best 23 points, going 9-of-17 from the floor.

Adams averaged 19.0 ppg, 5.5 apg and 5.0 rpg in two UConn victories. In the Huskies’ win over UCF, Adams became the 50
th player in UConn history to eclipse 1,000 career points.
Jarron Cumberland · So. · G · Cincinnati · Wilmington, Ohio
In No. 14 Cincinnati’s lone game of the week, Cumberland posted a game-high 18 points as the Bearcats won at USF. The sophomore went 7-of-11 from the floor, matching his season best with 4 three-pointers.
Rob Gray · Sr. · G · Houston · Forest City, N.C.
Gray averaged 23.0 points and 8.5 assists as Houston improved to 4-1 in American play. Against Tulsa, Gray poured in 34 points and handed out eight assists before setting a career-high with nine assists at ECU. Gray chipped in 12 points in the road victory.
Melvin Frazier · Jr. · G · Tulane · Avondale, La.
Frazier averaged 22.0 points and 4.0 steals for the Green Wave last week. At Memphis, Frazier posted a career-high 28 points; the performance was the seventh time this season Frazier scored 20-plus points.
Landry Shamet · R-So. · G · Wichita State · Kansas City, Mo.
Shamet helped lead No. 5 Wichita State to a 2-0 week with wins at ECU and at Tulsa. The guard averaged 13.5 points and 7.5 assists, recording his first double-double in an 11-point, 11-assist effort against the Pirates. Shamet’s 16 points at Tulsa tied for team-high honors.
