Houston’s Queen, Memphis’ Smith Collect Weekly Softball Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly softball honors for the week of April 23-29.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sarah Queen · Soph. · INF · Houston
Queen finished the week with a .438 batting average (7-for-16) with a pair of multi-hit games as she helped lead Houston to three victories last week. She drove in four RBI and scored four runs herself while collecting three doubles for the Cougars. Queen had a double in Houston’s midweek victory against No. 19 Baylor, and then had doubles in each of the first two games at UConn in American Conference action.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Molly Smith · Sr. · LHP · Memphis  
Smith became the all-time career strikeout leader at the Memphis this past weekend and currently sits at 489 in her career. She also matched the program record for wins in a season with 24, and is now second all-time for strikeouts in a season with 211. Smith posted three-straight complete game shutouts last week, including two over Tulsa, finishing the week with a 3-1 record. Against Tulsa in game one of the series, Smith struck out eight which marked a season-high in a conference game for the senior pitcher. She finished the week with 22 strikeouts in 22.2 innings pitched. She also allowed her opponents to hit just .167 on the week against her.  

 
WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
Savannah Heebner · Jr. · RHP · Houston
Heebner made three appearances in the circle last week, posting a 3-0 record with three complete games and a 1.11 ERA, including Houston’s midweek victory against No. 19 Baylor. She struck out 19 batters and allowed only one walk in 19.0 innings of work. Heebner also helped herself at the plate, notching a home run against UConn in American Conference action.
 
Jill Stockley · Jr. · RHP · UConn
Stockley recorded a pair of complete-game wins against Bryant and Houston last week, while also making a 2.2-inning relief appearance on Sunday against the Cougars. She went 2-0 with a 0.84 ERA last week, allowing two earned runs on nine hits in 16.2 innings of work. Stockley struck out six and allowed just one run on two hits in 4-1 win over Bryant. On Saturday, she recorded five strikeouts in a two-run, seven-hit complete game effort against Houston to help the Huskies to a 4-2 win before picking up four strikeouts in 2.2 innings of relief on Sunday.
 
Georgina Corrick · Fr. ·RHP · USF
Corrick had two seven inning, complete-game wins last week, including a 12-strikeout night in the War on I-4 series opener Friday, as she retired 18 straight batters and with the 12 strikeouts.  On Sunday, Corrick threw five perfect innings and five strikeouts on the way to a 2-1 win over UCF that clinched the series win. Corrick’s weekend ERA was 1.00, and she leads the team with a 1.60 ERA for the season. She earned her 13th and 14th wins last weekend.
 
Delaney Smith · Fr. · OF · Memphis
Smith led the Memphis offense with a .429 batting average and team-high six hits last week. In the midweek win over Central Arkansas, Smith went 3-for-4 from the plate with a triple and a career-high four RBI. She finished the week with two triples, a stolen base, and three runs scored for the Tigers in a 3-1 week.
 
Madison Perrigan · So. · C · Wichita State
Perrigan led Wichita State offensively last week, driving in three RBI with a home run as the Shockers took two of three games on the road against ECU in American Conference action. She finished the week with a .375 batting average, also scoring two runs in the series.
