- UConn, Houston and Tulane each swept their opponent, as The American teams enjoyed a 3-0 Tuesday night. Houston and Tulane remain undefeated this year with 4-0 records, while UConn improves to 3-1. Four conference teams are yet to lose a match this year, while nine teams hold a winning record. The American is 27-11 in nonconference matches to start the year.
UConn 3, Quinnipiac 0
UConn (3-1) hit .357, while holding Quinnipiac to hitting .044 on the way to winning its home opener with a 3-0 victory. Setter Emma Turner guided the explosive offense with 40 assists. Caylee Parker and Iman McGary both reached double-figure kills to lead the attack. The Huskies are back in action this weekend and will host the UConn Challenge, featuring New Hampshire, Iona and Syracuse.
Houston 3, Prairie View A&M 0
Houston (4-0) defended the home court to remain undefeated with a 4-0 record after defeating Prairie View A&M in three sets. The Cougars used an powerful offense, hitting .371, while the Panthers were held to a .020 hitting percentage. Gabi Zelaya led the way with 12 kills, making just two errors on 19 swings for a .526 hitting percentage. Libero Katie Karbo recorded 22 digs in the back row. Houston will head to Lafayette, La., this weekend for four matches.
Tulane 3, New Orleans 0
Tulane (4-0) swept in-city rival New Orleans at home to collect its fourth-straight win, improving to 4-0 on the season. The Green Wave are still yet to lose a set, winning 12 straight in 2018. Lexie Douglas and Hannah Shaw each had seven kills to anchor Tulane’s offense that averaged a .258 hitting percentage, while holding New Orleans to hitting .070. The team had eight blocks with Mackenzie Benoit recording four stuffs. The Green Wave will put their perfect season on the line when they travel to Atlanta, Ga., for a tournament at Georgia Tech.
